Where’s the plaid?

That’s right, I just checked my email and saw this image:

If you know me by now, you’ll know that I’m weary about this. Burberry is one of those brands that has always done what they do best, stick with the plaid design that everyone knows them for. This Spring/Summer however, they will be bringing us their new Sunburst print instead.

Peplum is the retro-chic all-the-craze-now silhouette.

It’s distinguishable, memorable, and definitely a break from flowy bias cut shapes. It’s ruffles on structure so it adds a sophistication to the ruffled look.

It’s being implemented on not just dresses, but also cardigans, blouses, jackets, and skirts. It’s a cute shape and I think if worn a certain way can hide a few extra pounds. A definite bonus!

A history lesson for you, if you don’t mind. The peplum was a shape around in the 30s and 40s on women’s dresses. It was the sophisticated and structured look that women had and you’ll see plenty of these if you watch old black and white movies around the 1940s that featured fashionable women. The word “peplum” is actually of Greek origin simply meaning “tunic.” Makes sense, since the start of peplums were long tops or jackets with ruffles at the bottom. However, all this being said, the peplum actually dates back to around the 19th century riding coat.

And that’s how it has evolved to now fit with today’s runway fashions….

Embrace the Lace: Shorts

I kind of blame Kate Middleton for the lace craze.. she apparently loves lace. Google “Kate Middleton Lace” and you will see what I mean. She wears it out and about and then, her wedding dress blew it all away. Her gorgeous Alexander McQueen designed by Sarah Burton made lace an “in” thing again.

Lace has gone above and beyond just tops and dresses this season. Shorts and pants now can be lacy. And yes, all these items are acceptable for wearing outside, they aren’t just for pajamas or lingerie anymore. Since there are so many different types of lacy things this year, I’ve split the lace amongst a few posts.

Today you’ll find lace making up shorts or simply embellishing the fabric. Some look like beach cover-ups, some like lingerie, and others hippie-chic. Because of the variety of styles, I’m sharing my lacy finds. Most importantly, I’ve found a variety of brands so the price points are all over the place. You’ll be able to find a pair that suits your bank account.

I’m excited for summer weather to try out these cute and feminine shorts. I can’t wait to style them and dress them up to wear around!

April… May… June

As most people know, Chanel loves its nail polish. And as you also know, so do the people that buy it. Fashionistas wait, rather impatiently, for the new colors to come out and then swear by those colors until the next trend color hits. As published in the latest Allure, the new colors are… drumroll please…

Chanel - Le Vernis

Chanel Le Vernis

Beautiful aren’t they? In order of April, May, June they are a deep mauve, peony, and peach since this image doesn’t quite do them the justice they deserve. ¬†And honestly, I can’t wait to get my hands on April and May. They make it feel like Spring and Summer have arrived.

One of the greatest things about Chanel polish, is if you do order from their site directly, and you swear by your nail polish color, you can actually order it as a recurring purchase. No more going to your local department store that sells it, or Chanel boutique (if you’re lucky enough to have one in your city), but you can sign up to have it come to you every 30 days, 60, 90, 120, etc days. However often you need it, you will receive it in the mail. Now if only you could have that option with everything you buy…

Which Chanel nail color is your favorite? Is there one you can’t seem to live without?

Color.. color.. color

Color this spring, is not just for pants. It’s for EVERYTHING.

If you like your monochrome colors, I’m sorry, but this is not your season.

If you do like your blacks, you don’t have to go all out like these girls in the ad for Victoria’s Secret do, but at least add a pop of color somewhere in your outfit. And yes, you read that right… even Victoria’s Secret is getting in on the Spring Trend. A pop of color adds a little something. You always hear how important accessories are, this is one of the times to put this saying to use.
