Add a Wing to that Bag

I haven’t really done one of these posts in a while, and I don’t know why. Guess I haven’t had the time to read any magazines.. But to get back on the ball, here’s a current/upcoming trend for our handbags.

It may not be news to you, but winged bags are in for Spring. It’s not a huge change to bags, just a subtle difference. You’re going to start to see more fabric up by the zipper to create a “winged” look on the more structured handbags.

If you’re wanting to add this trend to your collection, I’ve scoured the web to find quite a few bags of the trend. There’s the high-end Prada and the lower Danielle Nicole.

So, here’s the list:

Happy Black Friday!

I hope you are all shopped out and have scored some amazing deals! I know I did. I got my schedule together yesterday and figured out where all to go and started around 9pm last night.

First, I went to Saks Off 5th, which opened at 10pm and I’ve got to admit was the biggest letdown of the night. I was able to get these fantastic Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses for $40, and a Vivenne Tam top, but the problem is, my Off 5th NEVER gets new stuff. Seriously, you can go once every 6 months and you might find one or two new things.

Printed Sunglasses

I’ve got to admit, I love my classic black sunglasses, they go with everything; however, the new colorful printed sunglass trend is growing on me.

They’re a cute extra little splash of color that you can add to your outfit. (Outdoors only though. I can’t stand wearing sunglasses inside. It just makes my head hurt thinking about it.) You can get the sunglasses in a variety of colors right now and with a ton of different prints on them. There’s leopard ones, dots, floral, stripes, snakeskin etc. I can picture an outfit developing in my head as I go down the list. Snakeskin sunglasses with a black t-shirt and snakeskin skinnies….. cute right? Anyway…

Here are some fantastically bold shades I’ve found:

Christian Lacroix Large Sunglasses – $325

Love, love, love these polka dot frames! There so cute and so close to my classic black ones but with a twist…

P..P..P..Peplum!

Peplum is the retro-chic all-the-craze-now silhouette.

It’s distinguishable, memorable, and definitely a break from flowy bias cut shapes. It’s ruffles on structure so it adds a sophistication to the ruffled look.

It’s being implemented on not just dresses, but also cardigans, blouses, jackets, and skirts. It’s a cute shape and I think if worn a certain way can hide a few extra pounds. A definite bonus!

A history lesson for you, if you don’t mind. The peplum was a shape around in the 30s and 40s on women’s dresses. It was the sophisticated and structured look that women had and you’ll see plenty of these if you watch old black and white movies around the 1940s that featured fashionable women. The word “peplum” is actually of Greek origin simply meaning “tunic.” Makes sense, since the start of peplums were long tops or jackets with ruffles at the bottom. However, all this being said, the peplum actually dates back to around the 19th century riding coat.

And that’s how it has evolved to now fit with today’s runway fashions….
