November Beauty Box: Glossybox

So, I got my Glossybox for November in the mail yesterday. They had issues with emailing out the tracking numbers three times but at least I got my box. That said, it will be my last. It’s the most expensive one I subscribe to and it’s been consistently disappointing.

My biggest reason for unsubscribing is that I rarely get anything that I will use. I’ve gotten shampoo/conditioner for colored treated hair, hair products for fine hair, and a brown lip gloss, just to name a few.

This box takes the cake though. The blush that was included in this box, the Glossybox one, is the EXACT same one as what I got in LAST month’s box. While it is a color I can use, the thing that irritates me the most is that it’s one of their own products that their reusing, not a good brand. Next, those nail polish stickers… those just feel like a cheap item, and finally, the eye/lip pencil, I was so excited for when I first saw the box. But upon opening the box, the color is almost the same color as my skin, not exactly useful.

I will give props to the Arganics by NuMe Style argan oil included in this box though, it smells amazing, and as I do have dry ends (I’m growing my hair out), I think it will come in handy this winter.

By the way, I absolutely love this card. As a person who writes content for companies, I’ve got to wonder who forgot to proof this before it went to print… Notice how 4 out of the 5 product descriptions are cut off.  :)

July Glossybox

I received my July Glossybox actually in the month of July!!

I’m pleased. However, it still did take from the 16th until the 28th to get halfway across the country (NJ to KS). They seriously use the worst shipping company. Honestly, I’m not sure if I’m happy with this box or just plain completely annoyed. I definitely am partially annoyed, but I’ll get to that when I get to those items. The total of the products add up to well above the $21 that I pay each month, with two full-sized items included.

The theme this month was Summer Nights. It’s for showing off sunkissed hair, sultry eyes, and sexy sandals.

So, here we go, here’s the box followed by the card:

My Very Own Glossybox!!

Please forgive me for my recent lack of posts besides a few outfits posts, I’ve been super busy starting a new job and I’ve been avoiding the blogging world all together in anticipation for my first Glossybox. I’ve heard so much about Glossybox from other countries, I had to sign up and try it myself. Since Glossybox came to the US only a few months ago (April), I waited for subscriptions to open up and once they did, early June, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of my box.

People started receiving there’s June 29th, and since then I’ve been neglecting my favorite blogs, avoiding my email and pretty much hiding in hopes that I didn’t see what was in the box and ruin it. I love being surprised. If I didn’t, I would subscribe to the beauty box that lets you choose your items.

Needless to say, mine finally came Friday. Yes, that’s a whole week I had to avoid reading anything that might give it away, and trust me, that’s a lot of things to avoid. And….that was the longest wait I’ve everrrr waited. The good thing about being probably one of the LAST people to receive this box, is I probably won’t be spoiling this for anyone.

Without further ado, here’s my lovely pink box.

A Little Trip to Sephora

As I mentioned in a previous post, I wanted to start a new skin care regimen that would protect my skin from aging and other elements that can cause wrinkles and other damage. Using the Sephora hotline I was recommended two brands, both slightly pricey for me to be willing to commit to. So when I went into my local Sephora and I simply asked for a recommendation based on my current concerns (anti-aging, very sensitive skin, slightly oily, and want full regimen) and I was taken to the Origins section.

The Origins line pride themselves on being very natural meaning good for sensitive skin. The collection they directed me to is called “A Perfect World” meant to act as a “protective bubble” against the elements and great for a twenty-something who doesn’t really have wrinkles or much damage they need to reverse, but instead just wants to prevent damage.

One of the things that they offered was a 3-piece trial set comprising of: an antioxidant cleanser with white tea, a white tea skin guardian, and an antioxidant moisturizer with white tea. This collection’s special ingredient was obviously White Tea and let me tell you it’s noticeable. These pieces all have such an amazing smell to them. I almost look forward to using them because they smell soooo good. I took the three pieces out of the box and put them in front so you can see the size for the $39.50. Considering the price of most skincare products, I thought it was a good deal.

I’ve been using them for a little over a week now and I haven’t even made a dent in any of the products. I will admit, I wish the skin guardian came with a little bit more because its only a .17oz sample. It seems a bit off compared to the size of the other two. Considering you’re supposed to use all three AM and PM, I know I’m going to run out of that one way before the cleanser and moisturizer. So far, I am happy with the products though honestly I don’t feel they’re anything special. I haven’t had any serious breakouts since using it so that’s a definite plus but my biggest concern is whether or not this was really what I was looking for. I was looking for something anti-aging that would protect my skin and there’s no SPF or Vitamin C or anything that is typically in anti-aging products in these three pieces. I probably won’t buy the full size since I really don’t feel like they’re doing anything more than a typical cleanser or moisturizer would do.

The rest of the pieces I brought home with me are samples of the Origins Modern Friction, a natural and gentle dermabrasion product. I haven’t used it yet, but its made of skin-refining rice to remove all the bad stuff from your skin. The lady suggested I use it to get rid of black heads and clogged pores.

She also gave me a sample of Origins Clear Improvement Mask. It’s a charcoal mask to clear pores as well. (My pores must have looked really bad to her.) This, like the last, I have yet to try. I didn’t want to shock my skin trying out everything all at once.

The last sample I got was Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream. I originally asked about Dr. Jart’s BB Cream since I had received a sample in May’s Birchbox but it wasn’t even enough for two uses. The salesgirl instead said she really didn’t like Dr. Jart’s and suggested I try Smashbox instead. I’ve got to admit, it’s not bad, the color matches my skin better, but I feel like it doesn’t really have any staying power. Even with layering a finishing powder over it, it doesn’t last a whole day. I’m glad this was a sample because I won’t be purchasing it.

The last item up there is Urban Decay’s 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion. This is one of the items that are a must for me in my daily routine. I love this liner and if you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it. It’s perfect for tightlining or lining closely on your top lid. You can get an incredibly thin line with the brush and the bristles don’t break like others so even at the very end of its life you still get a perfect line.

That’s all for now. Do you all use any of these products? Love them, hate them? Have a suggestion? Share your thoughts :)

That’s a Pretty Lipstick… No not the color…

With so much focus being placed on packaging for makeup now-a-days it’s no wonder that everything is getting more pretty. The most noticeable, in my opinion, is blushes. Companies now have to make sure the color and quality of the product is impressive as well as the appearance of the makeup. We want pretty things, don’t we?

Here are some of the pretty products I’m referring to:

Emilio Pucci in My Makeup Bag?

That just sounds weird, right?

Wrong. it sounds fantastic. Guerlain and Emilio Pucci has teamed up to bring a new taste to cosmetics in the Guerlain Terra Azzurra Collection by Emilio Pucci. This set is a limited edition and has tastes of Pucci’s signature designs. Blues are everywhere (except the eyeshadows and bronzer). On the cases, the bristles, the color of the mascara, the pearls, the kohl, and an option for the nail lacquer. Just like the mesh of Pantone and Sephora made a hit with orange this season, Emilio Pucci and Guerlain are sure to make a mark with blues.

Here’s the whole collection for your viewing/shopping pleasure:
