Add a Wing to that Bag

I haven’t really done one of these posts in a while, and I don’t know why. Guess I haven’t had the time to read any magazines.. But to get back on the ball, here’s a current/upcoming trend for our handbags.

It may not be news to you, but winged bags are in for Spring. It’s not a huge change to bags, just a subtle difference. You’re going to start to see more fabric up by the zipper to create a “winged” look on the more structured handbags.

If you’re wanting to add this trend to your collection, I’ve scoured the web to find quite a few bags of the trend. There’s the high-end Prada and the lower Danielle Nicole.

So, here’s the list:

Prada – Saffiano Large Bi-Color Tote Bag, Talco/Visone – $1890

A Tisket, A Tasket…

Have you seen these new shoes and handbags? They are made of straw and resemble basket-weaving.  I like the look and the idea; however, actual use of one.. I’m a bit iffy on.

Maybe one of you, my fellow readers, can answer the question that I have about them: how do they handle rain or water?

I don’t think they would hold up well to it, but, they are Spring/Summer items so maybe it can just be for sunny day use.

Anyway, one of the new Spring.Summer trends are basket-weaved straw handbags and shoes. I’m thinking this trend would look most amazing with flowy skirts and dresses, or other feminine/bohemian pieces. Definitely something to try with neutral colors and lace, ruffles, or florals.

What do you think of this trend? Have you found a pair of basket-weaved heels or a handbag you love? If not check out these possibilities:

Henri Bendel – The Blair Straw Bag – $298
This bag is so adorable, it seems like it’d be a perfect size if you’re just running some quick errands or going to lunch. The yellow trim really makes it, in my opinion. I’m ready for Summer when I look at this!

Charlotte Olympia – Rapunzel Wedge Pump – $1495
These caught my eye in a magazine. They just look so amazing. They have that traditional straw look but with a twist because of the black detailing in the wedge and bows on top. If I had an extra $1500 lying around these would be on my feet.

The NEW Willis Bag

As a child, I grew up with the Coach brand as the only choice if you wanted a good leather handbag. Unfortunately, as I grew up, and got to the age where I started needing a purse, the iconic Coach leather bags were beginning to be a thing of the past. I remember when Coach had a few simple colors to choose from: Red, Navy, Black, British Tan, and maybe a couple others here and there. Those colors were their staples. They had a few styles to choose from and those few colors. That was it. Plain and simple. They focused on quality, and we all know, the more simple the handbag, the more outfits it goes with.

You’ll remember, a few years ago, they started coming out with more canvas styled bags, rather than leather, with C’s covering the fronts, or embellishments of sorts, and crazy colorful prints. They were obviously marketing to a new clientele. I don’t blame them. You’ve got to try new things. They started getting a younger crowd as the younger crowd is the one’s who love flashy bags (most of the time), beat them up and need to replace them more often. It all made sense. They were looking for a higher profit margin and to please the youngins at the same time.
