Skater Skirts are EVERYWHERE!

Everywhere I go, online or in-store, I see skater skirts. To be honest: I love it, too! They’re so cute and simple yet fabulous. They’re extremely flattering and can easily be dressed up or down. Pair them with a button down blouse for work or throw on a sweatshirt for the weekend. Heels, booties, or flats, they will work with everything.

Here’s a short collection that I’ve found that are to die for:

Leather Legs

Fall looks are starting to emerge. What’s at the top of everyone’s list? LEATHER! Leather pants to be specific. It’s the must-have item this fall. Neiman Marcus’ list, to name one, has it with their top 10 fall trends of 2012. The other nine I will get to in the next week.

With the scorching weather this summer its hard to think about wearing leather pants without breaking into a sweat and wanting to adjust the air conditioner a few degrees.

Or, if you’re like me, the first image that pops into your head when you think of leather pants is an episode of Friends when Ross is stuck in his date’s bathroom struggling to get a pair of leather pants back on after sweating up a storm.

Anyway, I think I may try this style this season. I’ve honestly never had a pair of leather pants but I love the look. It looks fantastic with a white sheer blouse, or a nice print top. Maybe even a denim vest over a long sleeve t-shirt.. A nice black pair of leather or faux-leather pants can be very, very versatile.

Here are some options to add to your fall wardrobe:

Sheer It Is…

If you haven’t noticed… things are tending to get more and more and more sheer. If you don’t have some pretty under things (slips, chemises, or shorts) this is the season to invest in some. You’re gonna need them. If you’re questioning showing some skin, don’t fret, remember Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City? She wore PLENTY of sheer items and (most of the time) pulled them off without making you wonder why she wanted to show the whole world her bra. So.. the most sheer pieces you will run into are tops, dresses, and skirts. To deal with these pieces gracefully and fashionably, here’s your guide:

For skirts. Simple. Most skirts will have a lining to them. Unfortunately even though they have these, I’ve found issues with even these being too sheer. Here you can do one of two things: slip or cute spandex-y shorts, either of these can be purchased for cheap. For slips, finding them can be a pain as most people find them “out-of-date” and forgo them all together. However, I recently found a perfect slip at Target that was full body and fits perfectly under a short bodycon dress. For shorts, there are some cute ones at Free People, though a bit more expensive at $38. You can find some short frilly shorts in lingerie (think lacy sleep shorts)  if at a complete loss. I stuck with essentially one style here, because it’s the most obvious that there’s a sheer portion to it.

Color-Blocked

I know, I know. I’m a little late in sharing the whole color-blocking trend, but better late than never. This trend is reminiscent of the late 80s/early 90s when color-blocking was the in thing. It’s still kinda fun though.

I’ll admit, I like all the color this season, and I did just purchase two tops for color-blocking outfits….

and I’m really eyeing this dress…

Free People Color Block Swing Dress – $148

but beyond some basic color-blocking I may be too chicken. Granted, I will try a few outfits here and there to push my comfort zone, but probably not wholly-embrace the bold outfits.

Pretty Flowers!

If you love floral patterns and feel like you haven’t been able to rock them in a very long time… you’re in luck! The designers must be feeling your pain and brought them back in for this Spring/Summer.

I love the flowered patterns, and honestly, for some reason I feel very Zooey Deschanel in them…. which is definitely not a bad thing since she’s amazing.

Enjoy the finds :)

Embrace the Lace: Skirts

So here it is, last but definitely not least: skirts. We all wait, rather impatiently for the weather to warm up do we can bust out our skirts. (Guys really don’t understand how much fun it is to be able to wear skirts.) Short, long, half and half, straight, asymmetrical, flowy; Variety!!!

I kind of feel like I’ve saved the best for last or maybe I’m just biased because I think skirts are the most versatile clothing item we girls have at our disposal. You can wear them in the winter or the summer, without covering them up with a cardigan or jacket like a top or dress, you can pair them with tights to really accent the color, belt them, wear them with heels or flats to change the formality of the outfit. A skirt can completely change an outfit in a way jeans can’t. It puts an extra touch of femininity to an outfit that somedays you just love to have and exude.

Without further ado, I give you the skirts. I hope by now you have embraced the lace!
