August Birchbox: Beauty School

August’s Birchbox had the theme Beauty School. Since its August and all the kiddies head back to school this month, the title is fitting. The box and products itself is all about the “tools of the trade” when it comes to beauty. Mine arrived a day early with bright yellow packaging.

The card was a bit different this month with a bit more creative look. Instead of one single card with the items listed, it’s an accordion style card. It explains a few brushes, and how they’re used along with tips on how to get the perfect shave as well as how to read a product label. It’d be nice if they’d continue this every month so there’s some facts or helpful tips like what they have on their website. I doubt they will, but I enjoyed it.

Alexander McQueen at Charlotte Russe??

Well… kind of.. I was wandering around my local mall and stumbled into Charlotte Russe. While looking at the shoes I happened to see a pair that looked very, VERY familiar. I picked it up, turned to my boyfriend and went “Alexander McQueen!! Google it!” Sure enough, my memory was right on. Black leather booties with a zipper up the front. All they were missing was his signature skull zipper tab and peep toe. Regardless, they were purchased immediately. $935 vs $40…

Here are the actual Alexander McQueen black leather booties I was sure I was seeing:

And here are the Charlotte Russe ones that now belong to me:

Buy them here!

What do you think? Will you be purchasing? Close enough to the original?

Chanel Fall/Winter 2012

Every once in a while I have to share an ad/marketing campaign that I come across. This time it’s Chanel’s Fall/Winter one. I love Chanel (if you haven’t already noticed). They’re just so classy and simple and dependable. Not in a bad way either. In a very good way. When you say “Chanel” you get an image in your head: Tweed blazers, quilted lambskin handbag, gold chain link strap.

With this image firmly engraved in my head, needless-to-say, I was blown away by the new “simple” ads. This one in particular in this month’s Elle. (Forgive the not-so-fabulous quality – I had to scan it in)

It’s very… modern? I think may be the word I’m looking for. The thing that stands out the most to me has to be the COLOR. Most Chanel ads I’ve seen are black and white or at the very most monochrome. To see not only the grey jacket full of colored beads but to also see all the handbags in different colors (especially that yellow one) is just a “wow” moment. Plus it seems “young.” Again, it may be the color, but it seems like they’re targeting a different market.  To be perfectly honest, I looked at their site and I cannot tell if these are Chanel or Boy Chanel bags. They both have the exact same style handbags. (Check out the Chanel Paris-Bombay 2011/2012 Metiers D’Art collection vs Boy Chanel and you’ll see what I mean).

I love Chanel. LOVE Chanel. Just have to throw that in.

What do you think of this marketing campaign? Love the new look of Chanel? Share your thoughts :-)

Leather Legs

Fall looks are starting to emerge. What’s at the top of everyone’s list? LEATHER! Leather pants to be specific. It’s the must-have item this fall. Neiman Marcus’ list, to name one, has it with their top 10 fall trends of 2012. The other nine I will get to in the next week.

With the scorching weather this summer its hard to think about wearing leather pants without breaking into a sweat and wanting to adjust the air conditioner a few degrees.

Or, if you’re like me, the first image that pops into your head when you think of leather pants is an episode of Friends when Ross is stuck in his date’s bathroom struggling to get a pair of leather pants back on after sweating up a storm.

Anyway, I think I may try this style this season. I’ve honestly never had a pair of leather pants but I love the look. It looks fantastic with a white sheer blouse, or a nice print top. Maybe even a denim vest over a long sleeve t-shirt.. A nice black pair of leather or faux-leather pants can be very, very versatile.

Here are some options to add to your fall wardrobe:

(image from: allure.com)

For example.. for Monday August 6th:

The product value goes with the amount of items they’re giving away. The higher the value – the fewer they give away and vice versa. And, as you can see they kind of mix some amazing products with some plain-jane products and some days are definitely better than others. I typed up a list of product highlights to give you an idea of some of the things you could win throughout the month:

Wed, Aug 8th 7pm Freebie: Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in Midnight Brown ($29 Value) – The first 50 Allure readers.

Thur, Aug 9. 2pm Freebie: Chi Touch Dryer ($240 Value) – The first 10 Allure readers.

Fri, Aug 31 5pm Freebie: Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Luster in Glisten ($24 Value) – The first 250 Allure readers.

If you think that’s all they’re giving away… they’re not. There is SO much more. I just didn’t feel like typing up the whole calendar (please forgive me)…

Especially…… because there is not just beauty products. Nope, there is also clothes, shoes, handbags, and a few other items thrown in (like watches and cameras). There’s fewer of these to win (only one or two items a day) and pretty much only one possible to win, understandably so, as these retail at the $150+ value as opposed to a $10 value like the beauty products. Also, if you were wondering what happened to 3pm and 6pm, I found them. They are the fashion giveaway times.

Possible Fashion freebies for Monday August 6th:

12pm Freebie: Marc Jacobs Plastic Sunglasses ($310 Value)

3pm Freebie: Elizabeth Cole Jewelry Swarovski-crystal earrings ($147 Value) – Log in for chance to win one of 25 pairs.

Just Another Outfit Post…

I’ve got to admit. I really hate being short.

I love this skirt, but it just doesn’t look the same as if I were to have just a few more inches of height!

Still love it. Still bought it. :)

Jacket: Forever 21 … Skirt: New Romantics … Wedges: Mix No.9
