Rachel Zoe ‘Nuff Said

(Follow my blog with Bloglovin)

I found this dress which is part of the Fall 2012 Rachel Zoe Collection. I really don’t have too much to say about it except – I’m in love. I’m not going to be rocking it out on the streets anytime soon, but its coloring, with the boots is amazing! Pretty simply, I just wanted to share a gorgeous fashion look!

70/30 Rule: Black & Pink Mix

I was recently reading articles on Yahoo when I came across an article about the 70/30 Rule. I’ve always done this but never realized it had a name. This rule simply states that the key to having a good outfit is to mix good quality pieces of clothing with cheaper quality in the 70 to 30 ratio. For example: say you have a good jacket and a good pair of jeans, mix that with a cheap t-shirt, jewelry, and boots; or another way: a good sweater with a cheap dress, cheap leggings, a nice purse and nice jewelry. Essentially make sure your key pieces are good quality. It makes your outfit look more than you really paid for it.

You don’t want to waste your money on things like t-shirts or tank tops that are plain, those are expendable. Buy those from Target or get them really cheap on sale. If a cheap t-shirt gets ruined it won’t make a big impact, it can be replaced and it didn’t “make” your outfit anyway. What makes an outfit is a fashionable blouse or sweater or a really fantastic pair of jeans or shoes. Spend your money on those; they’ll last longer, making your entire wardrobe last longer. You’ll spend less replacing lesser quality items that have worn out or ripped because you bought them to cheap to begin with.

For this outfit, I put together what would be consistent with the 70/30 Rule. I exaggerated a bit with the extravagance that’s required to pull off this rule, but you’ll get what I mean. Four pieces of this outfit are priced $200 or above, while the rest, though making an impact on the outfit, aren’t the standout pieces and therefore don’t need to cost quite as much as the rest. Therefore, the outfit as a whole, isn’t all expensive.

Sex and the City: The Prequel

So, it’s not directly fashion per say, but most fashion ladies know and have a special place in their hearts for Sex and the City. Well, while perusing Yahoo news articles I came across one of interest to SATC. Apparently, since the two movies did so well, they are taking another one of Candace Bushnell’s novels and turning it into a show! The Carrie Diaries, to be exact will be made into show on the CW. Some of this may be old news, as there was talk about it all the way back in September. But recent additions to the works is the CW network, and Miss Anna Sophia Robb cast as a young Carrie Bradshaw.

I have read the Carrie Diaries and it was a lovely book. It was cute getting a little bit background on Carrie Bradshaw and seeing her go through senior year in highschool leading up to her big move to New York City and meeting Samantha. (Don’t worry, if you haven’t read it, I really didn’t give anything away that the book jacket didn’t. It’s a fantastic book, you should read it.) Anyway, I think that the idea of turning this book into the small screen, is an interesting one. I love my Sex and the City, and I am a little skeptical of this move. Let me explain why.

Carrie Diaries

First, I already have the characters in my head from the movies and the six-year run on HBO. Chances are, since they are bringing in a young cast to portray these characters, they will have different mannerisms and may change the characters.

Second, the CW. I feel like most people will understand that’s all I have to say. But- for those who don’t understand… the CW is very, very young. I realize that the Carrie Diaries is distributed as young adult, and it’s supposed to be set in high school, but the fans of SATC are older. I fear that with this partnership, it’s going to change the integrity of the story to make it even younger and tweeny feeling.

Third, AnnaSophia Robb. She is gorgeous, especially for only being 18, and her acting resume is quite impressive so I know she’s a wonderful actress, but she honestly doesn’t look anything like Sarah Jessica Parker who in our minds IS Carrie Bradshaw.

AnnaSophia Robb

I do plan on giving the show a chance because I do love the book and the series, but I’m just a bit skeptical and worried.

So, I ask you readers, am I being unreasonable or do you have the same concerns? Would you give the show “the green light?”

And the Oscar Goes To……

It’s a day for movies… it’s a day for fashion. There’s already talk of a wardrobe malfunction (J Lo), a star going au naturel (Viola Davis sans wigs),  and who was dressed the best and who was dressed the worst.

Everybody has their favorites and my favorite dresser of the night was Cameron Diaz. With her newly chopped short hair and gorgeous pale Gucci dress, she was all class.

Side note: I really want her dress… you know, for practical purposes, like to wear it to the supermarket or wherever…

This Alexander McQueen worn by Jessica Chastain won me over to. It was unlike the rest tonight, in a good way.

Both Anna Faris (What’s Your Number?), wearing Diane von Furstenburg, and Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), wearing Chanel, attempted the all-black sequin dress look. I think Rose Byrne came much closer to pulling off the look than did Ms. Faris, whom in my opinion, completely missed the mark. However, that being said, the whole one-color sequin dress look, especially in a long length gown, I think, is probably damn near impossible to pull off. Small doses of sequin in the sense of a tank, or a skirt, or a party dress is the only way.

So I put it to you. Who wore the sequins best and who was your favorite dresser or, if you want to switch it, who made the biggest mistake?

April… May… June

As most people know, Chanel loves its nail polish. And as you also know, so do the people that buy it. Fashionistas wait, rather impatiently, for the new colors to come out and then swear by those colors until the next trend color hits. As published in the latest Allure, the new colors are… drumroll please…

Chanel - Le Vernis

Chanel Le Vernis

Beautiful aren’t they? In order of April, May, June they are a deep mauve, peony, and peach since this image doesn’t quite do them the justice they deserve.  And honestly, I can’t wait to get my hands on April and May. They make it feel like Spring and Summer have arrived.

One of the greatest things about Chanel polish, is if you do order from their site directly, and you swear by your nail polish color, you can actually order it as a recurring purchase. No more going to your local department store that sells it, or Chanel boutique (if you’re lucky enough to have one in your city), but you can sign up to have it come to you every 30 days, 60, 90, 120, etc days. However often you need it, you will receive it in the mail. Now if only you could have that option with everything you buy…

Which Chanel nail color is your favorite? Is there one you can’t seem to live without?

Do You Wedge?

Every year, around this time, we get bombarded by wedges. Yes, we know – Spring is coming! Bust out the wedges and sandals. But here’s my question: how many people actually do the wedge thing?

I see them at New York Fashion Week, and in print ads but how many people do I see actually rocking the wedge? Very few. I’m 5’2″, so I do understand the need for some height on my shoes, and when boot season ends my choices narrow; however, I still prefer my heels over a wedge in the Spring and Summer.

I have found some cute ones to share though. So if you like to wear them, or just like to look at them, like me, enjoy!

Saddle Up!

Saddle bags. They’re super cute and actually functional. Yes, you won’t be able to carry your whole life in them like what you do with your go-to oversized purse, but you can fit your wallet, keys, phone, lipgloss and a few other things I it. It makes it easier at the checkout line too when you can actually find your wallet. Trust me, we’ve all been there where we’re digging around trying to find out wallet which is also huge while the checker and line behind you is all thinking the same thing:”do you seriously need that big of a purse!”

Anyway, saddle bags.. You’ll love them. You’ll find that a variety of designers are making them apart of their lines. From the Jason Wu target collection to Louis Vuitton, they’re in abundance.
